Tuesday afternoon, Scott called and gave me a head's up
that there was auction scheduled for that evening.
Inwardly, I groaned.
...First day of school.
...Last minute phone call from Greyson that he had to stay after school to get his football equipment.
...Ian had youth football practice.
I wasn't sure how it was going to work.
I tried to talk Scott into just going
and getting what he thought I would like.
No doing.
"You have to come because there is a TON of stuff!"
Okey dokey then.
So, I threw myself together. I ran to school and picked up Greyson. Got the DL on his first day. Dropped him off at home, picked up Ian and Noah, dropped Ian off at practice, and got to the auction about 15 minutes before they started on furniture.
WHEW!
And Scott was right.
There was tons of stuff.
Three full aisles, when usually there's only two.
And it was crammed in.
Unfortunately, prices were going high.
$250 for a large potato bin???
Seriously?
Alrighty then.
It was probably because auctions are winding down for the season
and there hadn't been one for a few weeks.
I managed to get a few things,
but most of the stuff was beyond what I was willing to pay.
The main thing I really wanted was this:
Granted, the tacky hardware has got to go, but oh yeah...
Loving it!
The rest of the stuff was just a bonus:
Dry Sink...
Wicker/Wrought Iron Sleigh
Knee-Hole Desk...
Oak Drop Leaf Table and 6 Chairs...
Needs A LOT of work.
Dresser...
Piano Bench for my lovey, Christine...
;)
and her piano in the woods.

I'm seeing it in La Craie's Sugar Cane
with slight distressing and a dark wax.
Ooooo! Can't wait!
Shannon, have you gotten your order yet???
;)

Dear Laura, I don't think you got ripped off as badly as you feared. The "buffet" you photographed is called a dry sink. I'm sure that's how the auction company described it in this listings, so you may have only been charged for a table you didn't get. And it could have been a mistake by the other person, who may have sent a husband to pick up things & mistook your table for theirs. But it is a good lesson to know what you're bidding on & to check your ticket before paying. I have been charged maybe $5 more on a couple of auctions that I didn't realize until later. I know the amount I won for, but the people responsibe for recording the sale prices sometimes make a mistake with the price &/or the bidder #. I went to an auction last Spring where a painted oak chest didn't get any bids the first time around. They moved on to other furniture, & came back to the remaining items later. Nobody bid again when he started at $10, so he went down to $5. I held up my card & was spotted by 2 of the helpers. Nobody bid more, so I & the 2 guys who saw my bid assumed I had won. Nope, the auctioneer had been looking in the other direction so the other woman got the chest for $5. I later saw it in a local antique shop, as is, for $85. Anyway, I just found out last weekend that our daughter & SIL are expecting their first child. I'm not allowed to tell the world about my impending role as a "grammy", but I was assigned with the duty of finding a similar chest that can serve as a dressing table & storage in the nursery. Even though I really didn't "need" the oak chest, I somehow knew we'd find a use for it if I did buy it. Next one that's a bargain & in good condition is MINE! :-D
ReplyDeleteWho was bidding against you? I'll get 'em. You just know they were bitter and walked off first chance they had with your stuff. I'll beat them silly with sugar cane.

I do consider all of the ideas you've introduced in your post. They are very convincing and can definitely work. Nonetheless, the posts are too quick for beginners. May you please lengthen them a bit from subsequent time? Thanks for the post.
