1st Day 2012

Quiet in da house!

Silence in da house!

Big fat cup of coffee enjoyment with
no arguing, bored children in da house!

Woot!  Woot!

Is my enthusiasm coming through?

Today commenced the 1st day back to school.

Children #2, #3, #4, and #5 got on that
big yellow bastion of a mother's freedom today.

Child #1 graduated last year.

Child #6 starts tomorrow for his 3 day a week Pre-School.

Sweet freedom
for the first time in 18 years!

Only a mom of a huge brood can get how much that excites me.

Bliss...  Are ya feeling me?

LOL!

Of course tomorrow I'll probably be a sobbing wreck as I send my baby boy into that big brick school tomorrow,
but for today, I'm dancing a jig of joy.

Yesterday I took Noah, Eva, and Landon to their Open House,
so they could meet their teachers, see their classrooms,
and put away their supplies.

Noah is excited because he has the way cool Mr. Kuhn
who is every 4th grade boy's dream.

Today they're launching a homemade rocket over the school.

Eva handled everything with her typical nonchalance.

It's not a big deal, ya know.

Landon made me proud.

I'm still worried about him tomorrow, since I've been hearing for the last month
that he doesn't want to leave me, doesn't want to be alone, doesn't want to go into the class by himself.
"But Momma, you won't be there all day!"
Bless his heart!

I admit, I've babied him.

But isn't that what you're supposed to do with the youngest???

But yesterday, he went right in and fell in love with his new classroom.

Actually, it was all the cool toys.

Hopefully there won't be an issue with him
wanting to play more than learn.

:P

Okay...  I'm shutting up.

I know you're here for the First Day of School Pictures.

Yeah.

Like herding cats.

Greyson thinks he's too old...

and refused to smile.

Then, trying to get them all to
look and smile at the same time...

and not goof off...

Greyson looks thrilled, doesn't he?

Finally, I managed to get this one:

I guess it'll have to do.

I think this was about the time I was telling them I had to take pictures every year so I could put them out at their graduation parties along with all their naked baby pictures.  Eva looks kind of confused
and Greyson was in the process of asking, "What naked baby pictures?!".

LOL!

Of course we weren't done yet.

I had to get the individual first day pics...

Greyson Phillip
The big man on campus as an eighth grader

Such a happy child.

LOL!

Ian Dawson
The stud 6th grader

How do you like those shoes?

He had to choose between $110.00 Nike Air Max
or
a new wardrobe.

His choice?

Obviously, the shoes.

Go figure.

Noah Scott
The big man on the elementary campus this year.

This was the 2nd picture:

This was the first:

I love my children.

LOL!

Showcases their personalities perfectly.

Noah = Serious

Ian = Life of the Party

And then a last minute wardrobe change....

Eva Elizabeth
The 2nd Grade Diva

Loves her Twinkle Toe Sketchers.

So cute that I had to get a close up:

That's my girl!

Just seems like yesterday
that I was taking pictures of Savanna at this age.

Now, she looks like this:

Instagram Photo

Before I knew it, the kids were screaming
that I had to get back in the house because the bus was coming
and I was going to embarrass them.

WHAT?

Embarrass???

I thought I was a cool mom.

Guess not.

I have now been relegated to the "Embarrassing Mom" category.

Never thought I'd see the day.

I guess a mom in a faded 14 year old house coat with ratty pajamas bottoms
and holey paint splattered sneakers is actually kind of embarrassing.

HA!

So I proceeded to dance on the side porch steps until they were either laughing too hard to speak or screaming really loud for me to get inside, depending upon their personalities.

Surprisingly enough,
Greyson was one of the ones laughing.

I slipped inside right before the bus
cleared the pine trees on the west side of our yard.

Whew!

That was a close one.

Even I didn't want to be seen looking like that.

LOL!!!

The last thing I heard was,
"No taking pictures through the window either!"

Uh-huh.

Right.

Just like last year...

And Lord willing, every year to come.

Now, back to enjoying the peace and quiet.

:D

Dream Big,

  1. Happy times! Love your post, Laura! I sounds like your sweet Landon and my Zachie have been talking. Zach has had some tears about Kindergarten. He keeps telling me he needs to stay home with me. No one else is home to help me (he he he). Besides, he is a smart kid. He knows a good gig when he sees it! Its been a rough few days. At least I see smiles when he gets home and the mornings are getting better. But, hey, they are the babies of the bunch. I will cut him some slack :) Here's to celebrating Back-to-School!
