And so the preparations continue for my in-law's 50th.
Last week I made 20 centerpieces,
embellished 30 votive candle holders,
affixed ribbons to 50 invitations and addressed envelopes,
and created 2 wreaths.
Whew!
Is it any wonder I disappeared off the planet for a little while?
LOL!
Today, I thought I'd share with you how to make these super cheap
and ridiculously easy centerpieces that you can use for any occasion.
Here's what you'll need:
Clear Glass Vase
Chalk Paint
Sanding Block
Fabric
Fabric Rosettes
Pearl-Type Beads
Scrap Book Paper
Card Stock Paper (Optional)
Glue Sticks
Glue Gun
A great place to find cheap glass vases are
your local thrift store or GW.
You can find them for as little as a dollar each.

1. Paint your vase with Chalk Paint.
The homemade recipe that I use for crafts worked great:
After the paint has dried,
you're going to sand the vase with a sanding block.
As you sand away the paint, the paint will be removed
from all the raised areas.
After you're done sanding, remove all the paint dust with a damp rag.
Wax to protect the finish.
2. Tear fabric into 4"- 6" wide strips
that are long enough to wrap around the vase.
3. Lay the vase in the center of the fabric.
4. Gather the edges of one end and apply it to the vase,
adhering it to the vase with glue.
5. Gather the other end, overlap the opposite edge, and glue it down.
(You can play with the gathers to arrange how the folds lay.)

6. Make a fabric rosette.
7. Glue a Pearl-Type Bead in the center of the rosette
to embellish it.
8. Back your rosette with Card Stock paper.
(Optional)
9. Cut out two leaves from coordinating
Scrap Book Paper.
10. Attach the leaves with glue in between the rosette and the backing.
11. Tear your fabric into long 1.5" - 2" strips.
12. Tie into bows.
13. Apply glue to back of ribbon and attach to the vase.
14. Adhere the rosette to the center of the ribbon.
And you're done!
Super cheap and super easy way to make your celebration pretty.
:)
I can't wait to see them all on the tables!
I filled mine with crumpled newspaper and
then topped it with crinkled filler.
On top of that I placed a candle embellished with
a card that I created on iPages.
It's held on with straight pins at each corner.
You could also use branches dipped in glitter
or spray painted any color.
Really, the sky is the limit!

Love them! I know your in laws will love that they are handmade by you.
ReplyDeleteMay I ask what kind of wax you use at the end?
Thanks, Amy
