I am on an owl kick.
A
HUGE
one.
A
HUGE
one.
(Since I can't seem to find any at the thrift.)
So, what did I do?
Googled: Owl Pillows
And thankfully I found an awesome owl pattern from Remodelaholic.
(Click the link to be able to download the pattern.)
Because artist, I ain't.
I might have wound up drawing something that looked like
a cross between an owl and The Crypt Keeper.
Yes, my artistic abilities are that bad.
I can't even draw a decent stick figure!
Anyhoo...
I cut out the body of the owl, the middle section,
used a small canning jar to trace out the area around the eyes,
and then winged it with the wings.
Get it?
Winged it?
HA!
Then I started digging around in my fabric stash
for some prints in coordinating colors
and grabbed some canvas fabric too,
for the body of the pillow.
After tracing the pattern onto the back of the fabrics
and cutting them out,
I broke out my handy-dandy Fabri-Tac
and glued all the pieces together.
Because... If you haven't been following me long, I don't sew.
EVER.
I failed that portion of Home Ec.
Seriously.
However, I was President of the FHA (Future Homemakers of America), so that counts for something.
;)
Next, because I was completely out of my mind, I hand stitched around each section with upholstery thread to give it some texture and more of a handmade look.
I kid you not...
Three hours and a couple of
Lifetime Network Movies later...
And lots of time spent regretting that I was more into my boyfriend than Home Ec in 12th grade...
I finally got the stitching on the body done.
And sewed on some buttons I had on hand for the eyes.
I used Fabri-Tac to adhere the owl onto the front of the pillow that I made using the no-sew technique,
that you can find HERE on my old blog.
And then, because I'm a glutton for punishment,
I hand stitched around the entire outside of the owl too.
That part really didn't take that long though.
And would probably take a professional half the time,
since I kept sticking myself with the needle.
After ripping apart a long unused Boppy Pillow
(How's that for upcycling? LOL!)
because I was out of poly-fill,
(How's that for upcycling? LOL!)
because I was out of poly-fill,
I stuffed the pillow and viola...
Way cute owl pillows!
And I got the Eva Stamp of Approval when she said,
"Can you make me some for my room? But like, in pink and purple?"
"Can you make me some for my room? But like, in pink and purple?"
Isn't it a hoot?
Get it?
Hoot?
Yeah.
Had to go there too.
LOL!
Get it?
Hoot?
Yeah.
Had to go there too.
LOL!
So, a big thanks to Tiffini for the inspiration!
I love how they turned out.
(Even if my fingers are still sore from needle pokes!)
HA!
