Along For The Ride: Living Room Makeover {Befores}

Well y'all, I'm embarking on another room makeover.

This time I thought I'd do things a little different.

Instead of giving you these teeny-tiny sneak peeks
or just a head's up that I'm working on a room,
I've decided that this time I'm going to take you along on the ride.

The good.

The bad.

The ugly.

Why?

Well, because one thing that I hear from a lot of the people I know in "real" life is
that they wish they knew how to do what I do.

Choosing colors.

Thrifting items.

Buying cheap.

Working on a small budget.

And then making it all work together.

Seriously...

I just laugh.

Why?

Because decorating did not and still doesn't come naturally to me.

It definitely wasn't something I was born to do, but it was
born out of a desire to make our home a place my hubby and kids wanted to be.

Well, that and the fact that I decided to take on this old place not having any clue of
all the hard work and $$$ that would be involved in making it our own.

If I knew now...

LOL!

But here I am and here it is and it has to be done.

So, I'm going to show you how I do what I do and that with practice,
you can absolutely do it too!

Don't settle for looking online and *wishing*
you could have a homelike you see online!

Don't sit and look at magazines and dream that you could one day have a home
that looks like what you see within the pages!

I'm telling you that you absolutely can make your home an awesome place to be
and you can do it on an affordable budget!

So, let's get started!

DAY 1:  Evolution of our Living Room
{The Befores}

Here was what our living room looked like the day
we came to see the house for the first time:

Looking east from the kitchen:

Looking west toward the kitchen:

And then after we moved in and I had inherited all of my Dad's furnishings,
with the exception of the couch:

August 2007

Look how tiny Noah and Eva were!

And Landon was 3 months from being born.

Time just flies!

Well, it was about 4 years later and doing absolutely nothing as far as decorating,
while my rambunctious kids broke stuff and stained stuff.

{Like kids do, except I had 6 that were doing it, making it twice as bad.}

Then, fed up with how our house was beginning to look and knowing I had to do something,
I started blogging to hold me accountable.

Most of you who have been with me since the beginning know that.

:)

Anyhoo...

THIS was my first attempt at redecorating our living room.

November 2011

Yes, it's bad.

And yes, I actually blogged about it on my old blog and posted the pictures.

ERRRRRR.

This was about 2 months into starting to paint furniture, make things myself, and thrift.

NOT.  PRETTY.

But...

It was a start.

Now, below is the SECOND makeover that I completed last year after learning a lot,
getting more confident, and learning to trust myself.

October 2012

Definitely much better, but not quite there yet.

So, I painted an armoire and the credenza...

And I've liked it like this for the last year, I really have.

But the MMS Milk Paint was really looking not so great on the top credenza.

It flaking off in a not great chippy way.

And when Scott decided to buy a new TV, I repainted it.

And that's when I decided I had procrastinated on painting and finishing
the final makeover of the living room for waaaay too long.

It's by far the biggest room in the house and has LOTS of trim.

But, since I have painted the trim in five rooms of the house, it needs to be done.

And since my tastes have again evolved, I'm doing an ENTIRE room makeover!

Paint.

Furniture.

Everything.

It'll still be full of chippy, shabby stuff that I love,
but in a new fantastic way.

And I'm going to take you through the process beginning tomorrow
with lots of little sneak peeks of the things that I bought on my shopping trip
on Monday.

Furniture sales, paint, thrift stores, and lots of goodies!

Usually I keep everything a secret, but this time I'm going to show you
EXACTLY how you can transform your space by spending little money
and how easy it is to do it by making things yourself.

I hope you'll come along for the ride, as I show you the
step by step process I go through in making over a room.

See ya tomorrow and don't forget to always...
