Now I Remember Why I Hate Painting Walls

Source
I could probably
leave an empty space here,
because that pretty much sums it up.

Or maybe I shouldn't say "walls" generically.

I'll be more specific.

Now I remember why I hate painting old Victorian walls...

One Word:  Plaster

It eats paint
like an aardvark in an ant hill
after 2 months on an Ant Watchers diet.

HA!

The good news is...

The first coat is on the walls.

The other good news is...

Eva loves the custom color I mixed up on a whim
yesterday morning.

TIP:  When mixing a custom color, ALWAYS mix the entire gallon.

Don't think you'll have enough and only mix part of it.

Mix it ALL.

From experience (the dining room), it is impossible to get the color exactly the same, even with the new color matching technology.

And then you have to go over the ENTIRE room - AGAIN.

So, I dumped it all into a large rubbermaid container for like taking brownies to a potlock, or whatever, and used that.

Worked like a charm.

And thank goodness, I had already had that in mind, because the colors I originally chose were HORRIBLE.

Seriously, I opened up the cans and gasped.

What was I thinking???

On the agenda for today, is another coat of paint on the walls
and painting of all the trim.

That's another two coats of paint.

My carpal tunnel
which was at a dull throb last night is screaming.

Funnily enough, it doesn't hurt when I type,
but only to hold a roller or a paint brush.

Maybe it's psychosomatic.

HA!

I could show you ACTUAL pictures of the progress,
but what fun would that be?

I know, I'm such a tease!

;)

No, not really.

I haven't even taken the time to take any!

Seriously!

Scott is really getting excited
(it usually takes ME getting started
for him to fall in line
and start pitching in),
and he's ready to tackle the floors.

His Job: Caulking the gaps in the wood floors.

I'm so glad I can count on him to do that,
because it would be a disaster if I did it.

I realize that some patience can't be gained.

And caulking floors, would be a great example.

The only thing that keeps me hopping up and down the step ladder
is thinking about what I'm going to do with the room
after all the hard stuff is done.

Pinterest is like Decorating Nirvana.

And there are so many WAY NEAT things,
that you want to do them all,
but you know if you do  it'll be tacky.

As you can see, my ideas are all over the place.

I haven't settled on ANYTHING!

This is my dilemma.

Is it no wonder that I never get anything accomplished
because I can't decide what to do?

I can't be the only person who has this problem?

Can I?

And I have to keep reminding myself,
this is EVA'S room, not mine.

I know I'm going to have to watch myself,
so it's not too grown up-ish.

At least I recognize that about myself, right?

;)

No Clue Where I found this...
Somewhere on Pinterest, but I didn't pin it.
Go Figure.
On the bright side, I've probably got another day of painting the trim, doors, and walls - plus another day of caulking the floors (Do we REALLY have to wait 3-7 days for that to cure????) and then PAINTING the floors - plus another couple of days of yet STILL more PAINTING - of furniture, before I start even thinking about making decor.

By then, I should have it all figured out...

Right?

Right???!!!

Please tell me, YES!

  3. I used Pinterest to get ideas for my granddaugter's room this last fall. Oh my, the decisions were so hard. We could have kept going and going but, I realized I had to stop before it became too much. But, what fun... Cracked up over the Aarvark... Can't wait to see it...

  4. Hi Laura, I love reading your blog and very much enjoy your sence of humor. (Aardvark!) I'm curious about the colours you've chosen and very excited about the decoration ideas you've pinned. I think the second and the fourth picture aren't "old looking" at all with all those beautifull bright colours! Can't wait to see what the result will be, I'm sure the room will be lovely!
