Kneehole Desk {A Before & After}

Auctions are my all time favorite place to find great things.
If you've never been to an auction, you should try it!

Don't know how an auction works?

You can read my series on Auction Etiquette on my old blog site
HERE, HERE, and HERE.

You'll be hooked in no time!

I won this little cutie, back in August.

$35.00

Nice!

The hardware was dainty and delicate...

I loved the carved trim...

The rest, eh, not so much.

Nothing a little bit of paint can't cure!

Eva wanted a pink desk.

She was very specific about that - and pouted
when I said it really wouldn't match.

{I had been picturing it white.}

But, she turned those sad doe eyes on me and I couldn't say no.

But, I didn't have any of La Craie's Debutante - and the retailer I use - Shannon @ Fox Hollow Cottage - was on a dreamy vacation in Hawaii.

What's a girl to do?

Mix it herself and pray for the best, of course!

I added a wee bit of red acrylic to La Craie Magnolia and started painting.

Two coats later and it was looking a lot better.

I actually liked the pink.

{Good job, Eva!}

But I wanted to do something different.

So I stared at it.

And a lightbulb went off.

What about having a built in desk calendar/place to keep reminders?

BINGO!

So I taped off the top.

And rolled on three coats of Chalkboard Paint.

TIP:  To minimize bleeding under the tape, make sure you really press down along the edges and paint AWAY from the tape.

Then I waited three days for it to cure.

Eva loves it!

For now, she can use it to make her little lists
(she has lists of EVERYTHING from her favorite flowers to her best friends.  Wonder where she gets that from?  LOL!) and doodle on.

When she gets older, it'll be a great place
to use as a built in desk top calendar to write down
reminders of projects that are due, extra curricular activities, etc.

And by placing the chalkboards on each side, she still has the center surface to put her iPad (because they don't use notebooks and text books anymore in our school district) while she works.

I think it gives a little bit of uniqueness to an otherwise so-so desk -
since I couldn't glaze/dark wax the carved trim because
that would be making it look "old".

LOL!

And it's great for Eva's new Study Station...

From blah to pretty neat in three easy steps:

And a great place to study, create, and daydream in her bedroom.

You can see more of her room HERE.

Have a great day everyone and don't forget to...
